A Third Location with a Drive-Through Concept

Sam’s Southern Eatery is set to open its third Wichita location, but this one comes with a fresh approach. Emanuel Ashiedu, a software engineer based in Salina, announced that the new restaurant will be located at 6121 E. 21st St. This building, originally a Long John Silver’s from the 1980s, most recently housed Clouds — a venue that started as a daiquiri lounge in 2021 before becoming a Mediterranean restaurant.

A Smaller Space with a Drive-Through Option

Unlike the other two Wichita locations, this new restaurant will be the first to feature a drive-through. Although it will be smaller in size, Ashiedu is eager to experiment with this new service style. The drive-through will offer a limited menu, including popular items like fried catfish, jumbo fried shrimp, and po' boy sandwiches. Guests who choose to dine inside will have access to the full menu offered at other Sam’s Southern Eatery locations.

A Taste of Louisiana in Wichita

Sam’s Southern Eatery, which originated in Shreveport, Louisiana in 2008, is known for its delicious Southern-style dishes. The menu features a variety of options such as fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, crab cakes, chicken wings, and fried oysters. The combination of classic flavors and fresh seafood has made the chain a popular choice for Southern cuisine lovers.

A Growing Presence in Kansas

Ashiedu and his brother-in-law, Charles Scott, have been steadily expanding the brand’s footprint in Kansas. In early 2024, they opened the first Wichita location in the former DeFazio’s space near 29th and Amidon. Later that year, they launched a second location at 6600 W. Central.

Future Plans for Expansion

The growth doesn’t stop here. Ashiedu revealed plans to open yet another drive-through location on the south side of Wichita. This continued expansion reflects the growing popularity of Sam’s Southern Eatery and the team’s commitment to bringing more of their beloved Southern flavors to the community.

With its unique menu and the convenience of a drive-through, the new location is sure to become a local favorite when it opens in mid- to late March.
